Style 7, Slanted French Braid...Up.

I really liked that slanted french braid I did a couple days ago, so I did it again but tweaked it a bit.

I just took the end and twisted it up. Then pinned it with bobby pins to secure it.
I like the effect it gave, with twists and turns.

Hope you all have a marvelous weekend!!

Hair Style 6. Slanted French Braid.

I was standing in front of the mirror today and I wanted to get my hair out of my face. I just started playing around and came up with this...

I started by parting my hair in a side part. Then I found the end/top of the part and made that section the middle of the three strands for the braid. I then started braiding in a diagonal line, incorporating the rest of my hair into the sections for the braid. I went to see Hunger Games yesterday...so that might have supplied the inspiration. :) If there is an interest I can try to make a video that would be more descriptive and show you how to do it...just let me know!

HairStyle 5: On the STRAIGHT and narrow.

I figured it might be a little boring to make a video for this style...I just used a straightener and it magically took the weird kink out of my hair. The end result looks like this...

Straightening my hair makes it look so much better to me!! However, I don't always have the time to straighten it...in case you can't tell, I have really thick hair. It takes a while to dry and straighten, and really just do anything with it haha!

By the way, you can't really tell, but I got some new earrings. I love them! They are vintage white bow studs...here's a close up.

LOVE THEM!!

20 hairstyles in 30 days.

I used to have long, barrel-curled, flowing hair. I miss it, especially recently. I cut a good majority of it off last year and donated it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths to make wigs for women battling cancer. My hair is really thick, and there is lots of it, so I figured I'd grow it long and donate it.
It went from this...

and I cut about this much off...

and it ended up looking like this...I loved it, don't get me wrong...

but now, it's at that awkward stage of growing out when it isn't short enough to do its own thing above the shoulder and it isn't long enough to not have random pieces do a balancing act on the shoulders.

(excuse the bridesmaid dress try-on session, but the hair makes my point)

So, anyways...I am going to try and find 20 different hairstyles that work for my hair length over the next 30 days. And I'll share them with you, with instructions, just in case your hair is at its awkward length too!

Crayon Art.

One of my best friends recently turned the big 2-5! She's had a big year, getting her own place with her guy, having a baby! My beautiful godson! She is happy and in love and I wanted to make her something special that showed that.

I am a little hooked on Pinterest, and came across these melted crayon 'paintings'. I decided to make one for her and they are pretty easy. Here are the steps I took, but if you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Hot glue the crayons, wrapper and all to a canvas of your choice. Then mark out a silhouette free hand or by stencil, whichever works well for you.

Then paint in the silhouette black.

Let it dry. An hour or two later, place painter's tape over the silhouette.

Prop up the canvas on a wall. Make sure you have newspaper or something underneath and along the sides of the wall. I forgot about the sides, and ended up carving crayon wax off the wall. NOT FUN! Once the papers are down, take a hairdryer and hold along the middle of the crayon. By doing it along the middle, you avoid blowing the wax right underneath the crayons at the top and allow it to travel down the canvas.

Blow dry the crayons for as long as you like. But, be aware, if the crayons melt too much they will break in half and fall out of the wrapper, down the canvas. lol. Hence that brown blob behind the painter's tape. :) But it all turned out fine. I just carved that little bit out, like I did the wall. haha.

Once you've finished blow drying the crayons, remove the painter's tape and you're done!

Here is what mine ended up looking like!

Happy Birthday Alston!!

French Mint.

I'm a little obsessed with mint at the moment. As you might tell from my blog background. It just draws me in. From laptop cases, jewelry, and jeans...to nail polish!

My nails were just boring, and I tend to bite them if they don't have polish on. With polish, I tend to not want to mess them up. So, my new solution is to wear polish ALL the TIME! :)

I wanted to jazz it up a bit so I took the mint polish and just did a french manicure with it. All you need is the polish of your choice and a clear polish as well.

I also used these French Manicure stickers. They are pretty easy to use and you can buy them at your local beauty store.

Place the stickers on. You can do one at a time, or all together. I found it easier to do it all together.

Let the polish dry a bit, then remove the stickers and apply the clear coat.

It's pretty simple and you get a more unique look than just a plain coat of polish!

vest. dress. tights. loafers.

vest: wet seal, dress: old navy, black tights, vintage shoes.

Went to the foot and ankle doc today, Dr. Arminio. He is THE nicest doc I've been too in the past several years. He took his time, he was talkative, and he was just a nice guy! If anyone has foot or ankle issues, go to him. He has offices all over atl, but he works mostly out of Johns Creek and Dacula. I highly recommend him!

Joseph Kony

I recently watched this video about Joseph Kony and the LRA. It was extremely heartfelt and informative. I have to say, the movie which is about 30 minutes long, is one of the best movies I've seen in a few months. I cried, I smiled, I wanted to do something to help.

Please watch the movie and do what you can to help. Whether that be donating money or just spreading the word about this horrible man and the hurtful things he does to others.

Click on the picture above and it will take you to the video.

I know that there are also a lot of negative comments going around about the Invisible Children nonprofit. But, think about it. For every positive thing, there will be nay-sayers. And for every negative thing, someone will find a positive. In my world, it is better to believe in the good, and do something to help...even if in the end, some of the facts are wrong. Helping does no harm.
